OBITUARY

Annie Mae Norman Harris was born on November 9, 1945, in Bay Springs, Mississippi, the second-born of cherished twins, to the late Charles Ray Norman and Lillie Mae (Newell) Norman. From her first moments, Annie shared a rare and inseparable bond with her twin sister, Johnnie Mae—a connection marked by love, companionship, and a lifetime of shared memories. She was the fourth of ten children. Annie attended Bay Springs Vocational High School and Piney Woods School before graduating magna cum laude from Mississippi Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences. In 1970, Annie united in marriage with the love of her life, Charles B. Harris, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 55 years of marriage. In 1971, they made their home in Flint, Michigan, where they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and family. From their union came three cherished children, who were the pride and joy of Annie’s life. Annie’s life was marked by service, diligence, and a deep commitment to others. She began her professional journey as a Kindergarten teacher in the Flint and Beecher School Districts, nurturing young minds with patience and care. She later dedicated 31 years to General Motors Corporation, retiring from Machine Repair skilled trades and earning special appointment as an Environmental Health and Safety Trainer. Annie was a proud and active member of United Auto Workers Local 599 at Buick City, the Mississippi Valley State University Flint Alumni Chapter, and the We Are Hawks Against Crime (WHAC) Block Club, where she faithfully served the Westwood Heights School District and Mary Gardens Community with compassion and civic pride. Affectionately known as “Ann,” Annie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister aunt, friend, proud grandmother of five and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to Jehovah and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her life was deeply invested in the well-being and success of her children—Vanthony, Katrina, and Charlene—whom she supported with unwavering love, wisdom, and strength. She also opened her heart generously to her special son, Patrick Thompson, Sr., and held dear lifelong relationships, including her beloved family friend of 60 years, Dorothy Waldon and family, the Lyles and Caudle family. Annie’s home and heart were always open, and her love extended far beyond bloodlines. Annie departed this life on December 29, 2025 in Bedford, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Mae Norman; father, Charles Ray Norman, twin sister, Johnnie Mae Wells, siblings, Katie Mae McCallum, William Norman, Ander (Sampson) Norman and granddaughter Kaleigh Harris. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Charles Harris (Flint, MI), three children, Vanthony (Alicia) Harris (Arlington, TX), Katrina Harris-Thompson (Arlington, TX), and Charlene Harris (St. Charles, MO); grandchildren: Asia Harris (Frisco, TX), Krystal Ellis (Frisco, TX), Kristina Thompson (Arlington, TX), Adam Thompson (Arlington, TX), Lauryn Harris (St. Charles, MO), and great granddaughter Serenity Thompson (Arlington, TX); three brothers, Charles (Cloria) Norman, Jr. (Sandy Hook, MS) Johnny Norman (Jackson, MS) and Bobby (Jackie) Norman (Newton, MS); and two sisters, Lillie Rose Hatten and Donzell Gavin (Bay Springs, MS); and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
