Life Reflections
Arthur Ray Avery, age 73, was called home to glory on February 2, 2026, in Dallas, Texas — leaving behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, devotion to family, and a heart that stayed connected to the people he cherished.
Arthur Ray was born on August 23, 1952, in the southern sector of Dallas, Texas, to Edward Avery and Marion Louise Booker, both of whom preceded him in death. Raised with strong values and a deep appreciation for hard work, he grew into a man known for his steady presence, warm spirit, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He graduated from Lincoln High School, carrying forward friendships and lessons that would shape his character throughout his life.
Arthur Ray dedicated many years of faithful service to IRIS before retiring. He was widely known for his skill as a builder and craftsman — not just because of what he constructed, but because of the pride and care he poured into every project. Working with his hands brought him joy and purpose. One of his most treasured accomplishments was building a deck for his parents’ home in Athens, Texas — a labor of love that reflected both his talent and his devotion to family. Whether large or small, each project he completed carried his personal touch and quiet excellence.
Outside of work, Arthur Ray found simple, genuine happiness in life’s everyday pleasures. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching football and baseball, always ready to cheer, debate a play, or share his thoughts about the game. Those moments sitting back, watching sports, and connecting with others, were among the many ways he relaxed and bonded with family and friends.
More than anything, Arthur Ray will be remembered for his deep and constant love for his children and family. He believed in staying connected. If he had your number, he would call not because he needed something, but because he wanted you to know you mattered. His check-in calls, his steady concern, and his simple reminders of love became a signature expression of who he was. He did not just feel love, he expressed it often and openly.
His presence brought comfort. His conversations brought reassurance. His dependability-built trust. He was the kind of man whose care was not loud, but lasting.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Doyle Cross (Tamica) and Katrena Hall (Steve), who carry forward his values of dedication, resilience, and love of family. He was a proud grandfather to Terell, Diijon, Jasmine, Lavotric, Uleyses, Victoria, Leslie, and Madisyn, and a joyful great-grandfather to many. His legacy lives on through each of them.
He is also survived by his beloved siblings Harvey Avery (Phyllis), Reginald Avery (Thelma), Cheryl Jiles (John), and Phyllis McFarland (Alvis), along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends all of whom held a special place in his heart. Arthur Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Maurice Turner, Sondra Hailey, and Carmen Avery.
Though he has departed this earthly life, the marks he made in the things he built, the love he gave, the calls he made, and the family he treasured remain. His memory will continue to live on in stories shared, lessons remembered, and the enduring knowledge that he loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.
