With a heart full of love and reverence, we celebrate the life of Joann Maxey Scott, known affectionately to many as Susie. Born on December 2, 1960, in Magnolia, AR, Joann blossomed into a beacon of compassion and warmth that touched countless lives. Her departure on January 30, 2026, leaves an indelible void, yet her radiant spirit continues to inspire all who were privileged to know her.
Joann spent her professional life as a provider with Jordan Health Services, where she retired in 2016. Her tenure was marked by selfless dedication and an unwavering commitment to those she served. She lived most of her life in Arlington, Texas, where her kindness and generosity were as constant as the Lone Star in the Texas sky. Her nurturing nature was not confined to her professional life but flowed into every aspect of her being. Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Joann embodied this sentiment, her life a testament to the beauty of empathy and the power of love.
Joann is survived by her beloved children, LaQuida Scott, Ira Scott Jr. and Douglass Maxey, and her cherished sister’s, Mattie Patterson and Patricia Wade, and her brother David Leroy Ford. Her grandchildren Dionté Maxey, Zaikiya Maxey, and Jenaih Humphrey. And her goddaughter Antoinette Koon. She is preceded in death by her dear parents, John and Hattie Gayton. Joann's love for her family was deep and abiding, her devotion unwavering. Her legacy is not merely one of familial ties but of the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the difference she made.
A service to celebrate the life of Joann Scott will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00AM MST at Family First Funerals and Cremations, located at 2703 Elsie Faye Heggins Street, Dallas, Texas, 75215. We invite all who loved Joann to join us in paying tribute to her remarkable life.
